Nov. 18, 2011 Kansas State University reports: Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan in an "Agriculture in America Today" lecture to Kansas State University students, quoted a poem called, "I Will Do More" by William Ward. The poem serves as a source of encouragement for the reigning Miss America. "We can do more, we can always find a way to strive for excellence instead of just good enough," she said. "I hope that's what I take to heart every single day, that I wake up every morning and say I'm going to do more today. I'm going to do more than I've ever done before." An advocate for helping consumers understand where their food comes from, Scanlan suggested agriculture needs support. "We need to do more to feed the rapidly growing population of the world. In this industry more than ever, we need to do more," she said. Her presentation was part of the Upson Lecture Series and sponsored by Food for Thought, a group of K-State students working to help consumers know where their food comes from. An interview with Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan aired on K-State Research and Extension's Agriculture Today radio program and is archived here. Tweet |
