SENATE AG COMMITTEE CHAIR COMMENTS ON NEXT STEPS FOR FARM BILL Dec. 2, 2011
BrownfieldAgNews reports:
Senate Ag Committee chair Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) is looking at an end-of January or beginning-of-February time frame for a resumption of hearings on the 2012 Farm Bill.
And Stabenow says the committee will use, as its starting point, the $23 billion deficit reduction outline prepared for the Joint Committee on Deficit Reduction.
Stabenow says that package includes the elimination of direct payments, a new revenue plan and new target prices, and making crop insurance and other risk management programs the foundation for the farm safety net.
