Jan. 23, 2012 Source: Ag Relations Council news release The Agricultural Relations Council (ARC), www.agrelationscouncil.org, announced today it has enrolled 15 student members in the organization as a result of sponsorship by CCI Marketing, www.ccimarketing.com, of Park Ridge, IL. Many of the new members are majoring in communications and currently members of the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow (ACT), www.nactnow.org. All the new ARC student members have demonstrated a passion for agriculture and were selected based on their ability to communicate effectively. All are actively participating in online agricultural communication and have demonstrated a proficiency using social media. The ARC, the national association of agricultural public relations professionals, re-organized the past two years and now boasts more than 70 members. The student effort is one new program initiated by ARC to demonstrate its ongoing commitment to growth among future leaders in agricultural communications. National ACT faculty advisor from the University of Arkansas, Dr. Jefferson D. Miller, said, "ARC has been considered a parent organization to ACT for a very long time, so a cooperative effort like this makes good sense. For agricultural communications students, the exposure to industry professionals while they are still in school is really important. Networking with ARC members and finding mentors in their fields of interest gives them a significant leg up on the competition in the job market." "I thought this program would be a great way to both introduce students to agricultural public relations professionals who are current ARC members and contribute to the continued growth of our organization. Hopefully our professional ARC members and our new student members will all benefit," said Warren E. Clark, president of CCI Marketing. "Also, I felt this was a tangible way to share the value I've received from being an ARC member with our future leaders in agricultural communications." The sponsored student ARC membership program will be evaluated to gauge its success and determine whether it will be extended in 2012. ACT student members and their advisors with input are encouraged to comment. Companies interested in providing either mentors or sponsorship support for travel for ARC student members are encouraged to contact Executive Director Den Gardner. The current roster of CCI Marketing sponsored 2011 student ARC members includes: Amanda Brodhagen, University of Guelph Elizabeth Burns-Thompson, Iowa State University Frank Chambers, University of Illinois Meghan Cline, Oklahoma State University/University of Georgia Brad Copenhaver, Virginia Tech Megan Crudup, University of Arkansas Elizabeth De Boer, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo Kelsey Fletcher, Texas Tech University Jake Geis, University of Nebraska / Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine Carrie Gilliam, Kansas State University Simon Haley, Harper Adams University College, United Kingdom Erin Mohler, University of Missouri Kelly M. Rivard, North Central College, Naperville, IL Brooklynne Slabaugh, Purdue University Jillian Stephens, Auburn University Other new efforts in the past year have included the creation of the new Agricultural Public Relations Hall of Fame program, collaboration with NAMA, www.nama.org, regarding public relations programming at the annual April conference, a partnership with the Agricultural Media Summit (AMS), www.agmediasummit.com, to coordinate its silent auction, reinstituting the Golden ARC award program, www.goldenarcawards.org and a mid-winter annual meeting.
