Source: Syngenta news release

Greg Thies joins Syngenta this month as senior director of Federal Government Relations, based in Washington, D.C. In his role, Thies will manage and implement strategic federal government relations, including outreach and advocacy.

Thies comes to Syngenta with a solid combination of experience and relationships in both the executive and legislative branches of the U.S. government, and more than two decades in the agribusiness private sector. He is well prepared to help drive Syngenta's federal government relations strategy and create opportunities to both maintain and expand the company's license to operate.

"Greg's leadership and experience in both Washington, D.C. and agriculture will enhance our government relations program," said Jessica Adelman, vice president, Syngenta Corporate Affairs-North America, "Greg has solid credentials and the contacts to hit the ground quickly to support Syngenta's aim of helping farmers grow more from less."

Prior to joining Syngenta, Thies represented BASF's interests before the U.S. Congress, Executive Branch, and state governments. He was the primary representative for BASF in the nation's capitol for the company's affairs in biotechnology, agricultural chemicals, pharmaceuticals, climate change, tax and trade matters, and more.

Thies also worked for The Scotts Company in government and international affairs, and served as a toxicologist and senior science advisor to the administrator at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. He was professional staff member on the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry where he managed agricultural chemical, biotechnology, food safety, and water quality issues for ranking member Richard G. Lugar (R-IN).

Thies holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Biology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He resides in Virginia with his wife Tamara and three children.
