Dec. 21, 2012 Source: CropLife America news release CropLife America (CLA), the national trade association representing the manufacturers, formulators and distributors of crop protection products, hires Rachel G. Lattimore as senior vice president and general counsel, effective Jan. 28, 2013. "CLA is extremely pleased to have Rachel join our team, and we know that her considerable legal and public policy experience will help our organization as she leads proactive programs for the crop protection industry," said Jay Vroom, president and CEO of CLA. "As we worked on the recruitment process in the past weeks, we have been reminded that our organization is a leader in agriculture on matters of legal affairs-thanks to the strong leadership of our members-and we were pleased to have a strong field of prospective candidates." Lattimore comes from the law firm Arent Fox LLP, where she originally joined in 1994 and has served as partner since 2003. During the course of her career at Arent Fox, Lattimore has served an array of clients, including CLA and many of its members, and is a recognized expert in a variety of highly-regulated business sectors such as pesticides, biotechnology, food safety and seed. She has direct experience in a cross-section of various litigation matters that span challenges such as federal regulation of ag biotechnology, pesticide data compensation and EPA enforcement actions. Lattimore also authored numerous publications and presentations on issues as diverse as the Food Safety Modernization Act, expanding health and safety protection for infants and children and the precautionary principle and biotechnology. A graduate of Duke University School of Law, Lattimore earned her Bachelor of Arts with Distinction in English from the University of North Carolina. She also earned a Bachelor of Arts with Honors from Victoria University at Wellington, New Zealand. "Due to the important legal matters that CLA handles, this position demands a strong and capable attorney who can also relate to all in the farming and ranching community. We found such an individual in Rachel," Vroom continued. "This role will serve CLA and our members well beyond matters of purely legal affairs. CLA has long relied on our general counsel to be a key executive on our Senior Management Team, provide corporate governance support to our Board of Directors as corporate secretary and serve as a spokesperson for the entire industry." CLA Board Chairman John Chrosniak (DuPont Crop Protection) led the association's search committee that successfully recruited Lattimore. "Rachel is a known leader and well-accomplished professional in agricultural legal circles. She also brings a personal agricultural story with her, having been raised on her family farm in western North Carolina. We are happy to welcome her to full-time service in the crop protection industry," Chrosniak noted. "I am excited to join the CLA team and further the crop protection industry through my role as senior vice president and general counsel," said Lattimore. "I look forward to not only working with CLA and its members full-time, but also re-joining my agricultural roots and supporting all of modern agriculture." Douglas Nelson has served CLA as executive vice president and general counsel for 17 years, and will be transitioning to a new role for the association as senior advisor on trade and intellectual property. "Doug is a major reason that CLA has become a recognized leader in agricultural law circles, having built our capacity to manage a complex array of legal and regulatory matters while helping us grow this association with strong and effective governance. I'm pleased to have him continue service to our industry in this new role," noted Vroom.
