In 1977, Royce was named General Manager at KGNC and strongly supported farm broadcasting and NAFB. In addition to his broadcasting career, Royce became active in the community, serving as President of the Amarillo School Board, Amarillo Kiwanis, Amarillo Chamber of Commerce, Tri-State Fair Association and several other civic organizations.

He served as President of the Odessa Council for Arts & Humanities, United Way Chairman and Odessa City Councilman for nine years and Mayor Pro-Tem seven years. Currently Royce serves as Vice President of the Odessa College Board of Trustees.

The National Association of Farm Broadcasting (NAFB) played an important role in Royce's career as well. He served the association as a Regional Vice President, Chats editor, and NAFB President in 1976. Royce was an Associate member from 1977-2003, and in 2003 Royce was awarded Emeritus NAFB membership.

Ken Root

Ken Root was born into an Oklahoma farm family. His parents persevered and survived the Great Depression, and passed along their strength and tenacity to their children. His parents pushed him to get an education and succeed in the world, and Ken did just that.

Ken graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1972 with a degree in Agricultural Education. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, and the Flying Aggies.

His career spans more than four decades, including teaching, radio, television, corporate communications and association management. Ken taught for two years at Union City High School in Union City, Oklahoma before moving into radio and television with his mentor, Russell Pierson. Ken worked at WKY from 1974-1980, and then moved to Kansas Agriculture Network (KAN) from 1981-1984 working with Rich Hull. He also worked at Kansas Broadcasting System from 1981-1987. A pivotal moment in his career was a two-week series called Surviving 83 developed by Ken and Rich at KAN.

From radio and TV he moved to corporate communications at American Cyanamid in New Jersey and then to the National Ag Retailers Association. From there, Ken started his own business, Root Environmental Services and Root Communications.

In 1994 Ken became host of AgriTalk, a new nationally syndicated radio program. He hosted the show until 2001. After AgriTalk, Ken served the National Association of Farm Broadcasting (NAFB) as executive director from 2002-2005. The microphone took Ken to WHO in Des Moines, Iowa from 2005-2009. From WHO, Ken moved to AgriBusiness Association of Iowa.

Ken made two important moves in 2011. He, and partners, started the Iowa Agribusiness Radio Network. It reaches statewide with over forty affiliates. He also became the National Farm Broadcaster for WGFA Radio in Watseka, Illinois. Ken also writes a weekly column for High Plains Journal.

During his career, Ken was an active NAFB member, serving on numerous committees, and the Board of Directors. Ken served as President in 1986 and as the association Executive Director from 2002-2005. Ken was named Farm Broadcaster of the Year in 2009. Ken is currently the NAFB Foundation President.
