Jan. 19, 2015 by John Patterson, AEM Chair I am pleased and excited to serve the members of our Association as your 2015 AEM Chair. In the coming year, we have a remarkable opportunity to advance a number of key industry initiatives, and with your help, I believe we can successfully achieve each of them. At its November meeting, the AEM Board of Directors approved its annual goals for 2015. These goals, each of which relate back to the AEM Strategic Plan, provide AEM staff and members with guidance and direction in the year ahead. As AEM Chair, I will place priority on the successful execution of six key initiatives incorporated within the approved AEM 2015 goals. They are: 1. Infrastructure Vision 2050 - Establish AEM as an advocacy "thought leader" through development of the Infrastructure Vision 2050 initiative. Infrastructure Vision 2050 will enlist industry partners and coalitions to join AEM in building support for infrastructure investment. It will also serve as an Association-wide organizing theme, providing a focal point for shows, services, and sector teams as well as an ambitious content campaign. 2. Advocacy - Sustain the I Make America success by achieving the member engagement objectives in advocacy for 2015. A new "AEM Members Make America" tour will conduct a series of events at individual member companies and, where possible, incorporate a regional gathering. The tour will highlight the positive contributions of AEM members to quality of life, economic growth, and prosperity, and illustrate the ways in which members are affected by public policy. 3. Latin America - Establish AEM in Latin America through statistics and credibility in international exhibitions through a successful CONEXPO Latin America event. AEM has committed to expanding its market statistics program in Latin America for construction equipment and building a new program for agricultural equipment. At the same time, efforts are accelerating for launch of the first CONEXPO Latin America in October, with exhibit sales exceeding budgeted expectations to date. 4. REACH initiative - Attain the participation and revenue objectives to establish REACH as a viable and valued program to members. AEM is committed to providing market access to member companies and their supply chains through regulatory compliance. A monthly Regulated Substances Brief, an exclusive learning management system called AEM MAP, and high-quality content addressing Conflict Minerals and EU REACH regulations are available now. Additional training and tools are in development to address this daunting task. 5. Emissions Regulations - Establish an Emissions Working Group to understand and provide guidance to the AEM Board on future emissions proposals, including Tier V. AEM will continue to coordinate with the Engine Manufacturers Association (EMA) on efforts to influence new engine emissions regulations currently being considered by the European Union (EU). The regulation is currently in the draft process. 6. 2015 AEM budget - Achieve the net operating income approved by the AEM Board. AEM continues to strengthen its financial resources in order to serve members better. For 2015 (a so-called "non-show" year), the AEM Board approved a "break even" net operating income, including $2.15 million in non-exhibition, new financial model initiatives. These are big initiatives with important consequences for AEM. To achieve these priorities, more than ever we need the cooperation and engagement of all Association members. None of us can afford to be standing on the sidelines when the stakes are so high for our industry. Please plan time in 2015 to involve yourself and key company personnel in AEM activities. Only with a strong and engaged volunteer leadership can we truly move forward to achieve our goals. I hope to meet many of you at one of our upcoming industry events. Thanks for working with me, and letting me work with you. Tweet |
