USFRA PROVIDES UPDATE ON CONTROVERSIAL NEW MCDONALD FARMER VIDEO
Source: U.S. Farmers & Ranchers Alliance (USFRA)

Last week Only Organic's #NewMacDonald video was released. If you haven't yet seen it, please take a minute to watch it.

This video uses grade school children to misrepresent farmers' practices in areas like animal welfare, GMOs and crop inputs in very visual and disturbing ways.

On March 10th, a Twitter party celebration took place and even before the event began, farmers were using the #NewMacDonald hashtag to push back against the message. Before long, consumers joined.

By the time the party began, the conversation was slightly chaotic. Party organizers escalated their message as they grew increasingly desperate to discredit and silence detractors, who were unrelenting in their rejection of this video and this campaign to promote it.

Organic and conventional farmers stood together, joined by mothers, scientists, and academics, to fight against this exploitative marketing. Party organizers blocked some detractors, and hardly acknowledged the outcry save a few passive aggressive mentions.

Following the Twitter party, USFRA released an editorial authored by CEO Randy Krotz to the ag media noting that, "Big, small, organic and conventional farmers - it didn't matter. We stood together, side by side, in the face of blatant mistruths about our food supply..."

"But we all need to do more going forward. At USFRA, we are committed to taking farmer and rancher voices to places where tough conversations are happening so consumers can really learn how their food is grown and raised."

USFRA is taking the opportunity to reach out to the companies that chose to support this video - including well-known brands like Annie's Homegrown, Organic Valley, Honest Tea and Earthbound Farm - to respectfully offer them the opportunity to meet with real farmers and ranchers to talk about the issues raised in the #NewMacDonald video. If the opportunity arises, we will invite them to visit conventional farms.
