FARM BUREAU'S NEW "GROCERY GRAB" GAME EXPLORES COOKING WITH BEEF
Source: American Farm Bureau Federation news release

"Grocery Grab," a new game aligned to national learning standards for third- to fifth-grade students, was recently launched on the My American Farm website. The free game focuses on nutrition and cooking with beef, as well as beef quality.

Learners also will delve into the sometimes-mysterious world of fresh beef cuts. In this section of the game, matching beef cuts to end products in a prepared meal gives students a glimpse of the variety available in supermarket meat departments.

Along with the game, a lesson plan helps students create a nutritious meal using beef. An activity sheet paired with the game explores the many different products that come from cattle, including baseball gloves, shampoo and crayons!

Grocery Grab is sponsored by the Beef Checkoff. It is the second Beef Checkoff-funded game launched by the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture in 2015 ("The Steaks are High" was introduced in January).

The Beef Checkoff Program (www.MyBeefCheckoff.com) was established as part of the 1985 farm bill. The checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. In states with qualified beef councils, states retain up to 50 cents of the dollar and forward the other 50 cents per head to the Cattlemen's Beef Board.

The My American Farm educational resource is a special project of the Foundation. The site and resources are made possible through the generous support of title sponsor, DuPont Pioneer.
