Jun. 25, 2015 Source: Association Of Equipment Manufacturers news release Dennis Slater, president of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), issued the following statement following today's vote in the Senate to give final approval for Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) powers for President Obama: Today's vote to give President Obama commonsense tools to negotiate trade agreements is a momentous, bipartisan victory for both equipment manufacturers and our elected leaders. "Fast-track" authority will enable this administration and its successors to pursue trade deals that break down barriers that inhibit manufacturers' ability to sell their products overseas and, by extension, support jobs here in the United States. In particular, I want to congratulate the president as well as Republican leaders in both the House and Senate for their efforts to win passage for this important legislation. This is a bipartisan undertaking that should serve as a roadmap for lawmakers as they pursue other pro-manufacturing priorities, like passing a long-term, sustainably funded highway bill, reauthorizing the Export-Import Bank and pursuing comprehensive tax reform. The equipment manufacturing industry will continue to work in the coming months with members of Congress to pursue free and fair trade agreements with Asian-Pacific and European trading partners. We hope to convey that these agreements are consistent with supporting manufacturers across the United States. The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) is a Milwaukee-based trade organization representing more than 900 manufacturers of construction, agricultural, forestry and mining equipment. Tweet |
