Aug. 10, 2015 Source: Ben Marion, The Creative Gene Leon Kincaid, born Everett Leon Kincaid, Jr., 84, died on August 6, 2015, of congestive heart failure in the home he shared with his wife of 25 years, Susan Willey Kincaid. Leon loved Kansas City and had lived in Shawnee Mission since 1961 with the exception of two years in Des Moines, Iowa, in the early 1990s. Leon was born March 22, 1931, in Oklahoma City. His family moved to Topeka in 1944 where he graduated from Topeka High. He played sports growing up, coached baseball in Johnson County 3&2 for many years and was a lifelong fan of the Kansas City Royals and Oklahoma Sooners. He loved to play poker and helped host a monthly poker group since 1987. Leon was a successful, long-time advertising salesman for farm publications owned and operated by Harvest Publications, HBJ Publishing, and Farm Progress. He also was known for his sense of humor, which he shared generously with his family, friends and clients. Generosity was a strong character trait. Leon always had a smile, a kind word and was quick to offer a helping hand to a friend in need. The many wonderful friends he made, and kept in contact with, during his long career in media sales are left with great stories and fond memories of Leon. Leon was preceded in death by his father, Everett L. Kincaid, and stepmother Velma Stevens Kincaid; his mother, Joye Glass Titus, and stepfather Jasper Titus; son Kevin Kincaid; and first wife, Darlene S. Schrader, with whom he had five sons. He is survived by his wife, Susan Willey Kincaid of Shawnee Mission and stepdaughter Kristin Willey of Sioux Falls, S.D.; sister Jeanne Caldwell and her husband, Jerry; four sons and their wives: Paul and Janet Kincaid of Springfield, Mo., Lance and Nancy Kincaid of Lenexa, Eric and Nancy Kincaid of Dallas, Tex., and Matt and Julie Kincaid of Leawood; Kevin's widow, Shelly Kincaid of Switzerland; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and nephews; three brothers-in-law; and many friends. Fulfilling his wish, Leon was cremated and his ashes will be scattered in a private family service. The family is especially thankful to the caregivers of Compassionate Care Cardiac Hospice.
