ASSOCIATION NEWS
The American Soybean Association (ASA) is forming a new AgriBusiness Council. The council's objective is to form a common soybean industry agenda on issues of importance in Washington, D.C. and around the globe. It will be comprised of the nine-member ASA Executive Committee and dues-paying members representing the soybean industry.

The Holstein Foundation, Inc., Brattleboro, VT, announces three new trustees including Joel Hastings, president of DairyBusiness Communications, Rob Kolb, VP of Mktg for WestfaliaSurge, and David Pelzer, VP of industry relations for Dairy Management, Inc.

"The Trustees are a key part of the Foundation's team," said Jodi Hoynoski, Holstein Foundation's programs manager. "They help to set the short-term and long-term objectives for the foundation's programs and fundraising, and ultimately contribute to the success of the organization. We are pleased to have three highly-qualified trustees with vast and varied industry experience joining our board."

The National Alfalfa and Forage Alliance (NAFA) was officially formed this spring at a meeting of stakeholders held in Denver, CO. The new organization, a hybrid of the existing National Alfalfa Alliance (NAA) and other industry stakeholders, was formed to significantly enhance and broaden what the NAA was doing. A primary tenet of the new organization is that it is an "umbrella" organization.

NAFA is administered by Co-Executive Directors Beth Nelson of Beth C.W. Nelson & Associates, Inc. in St. Paul, MN — whose primary focus will be legislative/regulatory matters and Rod Christensen of Ag Management, Inc. in Kennewick, WA, whose focus will be all other administrative matters.

Membership is available to any U.S. individual, association, firm, or corporation actively engaged in growing, producing, handling, processing, or purchasing alfalfa/forage hay or haylage, or alfalfa seed in the United States or in supplying goods or commercial services to producers of alfalfa/forage hay or haylage, or alfalfa seed in the United States.
