FULL YEAR: AG COMPANIES STOCK PRICES OUTPERFORM DOW, S & P 500 INDEXES Jan. 4, 2010 Source: Agri Marketing magazine For the full year, the Dow Jones Industrials was up 18.8%, the S & P 500 was up 23.5% and the NASDAQ jumped 43.9%. The portfolio of stocks organized by Agri Marketing, which is comprised of 40 companies with significant agricultural interests, was up 23.4%. Since its inception on Jan. 1, 2006, the Agri Marketing ag stock index has gained 15%. That compares to the S&P 500 over the same time frame which has dropped 6%. The year's five largest gainers were: 1. CF Industries (fertilizer) +94% 2. Agrium (fertilizer) +90% 3. Dow Chemical (crop protection/seed) +86% 4. Mosaic (fertilizer) +79% 5. CNH (equipment) +67% and Schering-Plough (animal health) +67% The two companies whose stock price dropped for the year were: American Vanguard (crop protection) (29%) Eli Lilly (animal health) (6%) Other notables: Syngenta (crop protection/seed) +50% John Deere (equipment) +48% DuPont (seed/crop protection) +42% Bayer (crop protection/seed) +38% AGCO (equipment) +37% Lindsay (irrigation) +29% Valmont (irrigation) +28% Monsanto (seed/crop protection) +20% Tweet |
