More foreign cases of avian influenza have been detected and food safety officials in Hong Kong are increasing their biosecurity measures.

According to a South China newspaper, the country's Center for Food Safety has placed a temporary ban on the import of poultry meat and products from three more regions in parts of China, Japan, and Poland.

The move comes on the advice of the World Organization for Animal Health.

Hong Kong has banned poultry imports from nearly 20 countries including South Korea, Germany, the UK. However, the United States is NOT included on that list.
