Source: Illinois Society of Professional Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers news release

The Illinois Society of Professional Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers named Patrick Tomlinson, Decatur, IL, the 2017 recipient of the Service to Illinois Agriculture award. The presentation was made at the organization's annual meeting held here recently.

Tomlinson, a district manager with Ag Spectrum Company, was cited for his "many years of leadership serving the farm management and appraisal industry as well as all of Illinois agriculture." The presentation was made by Bruce Huber, AFM, ARA, First Illinois Ag Group, Decatur and a past president of the Society. "Pat is a neighbor and friend to me and my family," Huber stated, "but he is also a friend to farmers across the state."

Tomlinson is a native of Macon, IL and holds a degree in agricultural economics from the University of Illinois. His professional career has been focused on working with agricultural seed sales representative-growers across the state. He spent 37 years with Pioneer Hybrids International, later Dupont Pioneer. His current responsibilities with Ag Spectrum include leading a team of area managers and dealers throughout Illinois.

Huber explained the "Service to Agriculture Award" is presented periodically to individuals whose work has advanced Illinois agriculture and the state's rural communities. It is the highest honor the Society bestows on non-members of the group.

He cited Tomlinson's role in the Dupont Pioneer-sponsored Leadership Institute and the NextGen Farm Management Program. The Leadership Institute is a week-long executive-level visit to Washington D.C. which includes meetings with Senators and members of Congress as well as leadership at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The NextGen program is aimed at developing leadership skills in new members of the Illinois Society.

Tomlinson is a past member of the Macon County Farm Bureau Board of Directors and a member and Deacon of South Shores Christian Church, Decatur.

He and his wife, Julie, reside in Decatur.

The ISPFMRA is one of 37 chapters of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers. The Illinois chapter, founded in 1928, is the oldest and largest state organization of its kind in the United States. Members are professionals devoted to the management and appraisal of rural property and agricultural consulting.
