IOWA NAMA CHAPTER'S "COLD RUN FOR WARM MEALS" STEPS OFF NEXT SATURDAY
Source: National Agri-Marketing Association news release

The fourth annual Cold Run for Warm Meals will take place on Saturday, March 25 at Gray's Lake in Des Moines. The 2.5 mile run/walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. with an after-party at Confluence Brewery to follow. The National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA) Iowa Chapter is proud to partner with WesleyLife for the run, with all registration proceeds benefiting WesleyLife Meals on Wheels.

"We appreciate events like the Cold Run for drawing attention to the fact that hunger is an issue right here in central Iowa," Rob Kretzinger, CEO of WesleyLife, Iowa's most comprehensive provider of housing and services for older adults, said. "Chances are, we all know someone in our own community who has not had consistent access to meals at one point during his or her lifetime. Studies have shown us that in the older-adult population, the numbers are even higher. There's a tremendous amount of vulnerability."

Food insecurity is a challenge that affects an incredible number of Iowans - over 83,000 seniors in Iowa are threatened by hunger. With 48,000 receiving help through home-delivered meals, more than 35,000 were left in need.* WesleyLife Meals on Wheels clients are never turned away for inability to pay and 85% of the meals provided to client are at low or no cost.

"By contributing to WesleyLife Meals on Wheels, the Cold Run helps provide 230,000 meals a year to the most food-vulnerable residents in the greater Des Moines area. And the program does so much more than provide nourishment; our drivers - many of whom are volunteers -- are trained to perform welfare checks, offering a caring word along with the delivery of a meal. For some of our clients, the drivers are the only people they see in the course of a day. Meals on Wheels is an important part of our mission to help individuals remain independent wherever they call home, and generous contributors like the Cold Run help make it possible to continue that work."

This year's sponsors include: Dupont Pioneer as a premier sponsor, and Meyocks and Bader Rutter as silver sponsors. In-kind sponsors include: AgriMarketing, Two Rivers Marketing, Power Life Yoga, Skyline Dynovia, Iowa Corn, Fleet Feet Sports, Waab's Piggin' Out, Hy-Vee, and Confluence Brewery.
