EFFORT TO PLACE MANDATORY LABELING OF GMOS ON BALLOT UNDERWAY IN CALIFORNIA
Wasson & Assoc. wassonideafarming reports:

Mandatory labeling of GMO could achieve California approval in 2012, if a new Non-GMO group is successful.

Since there has been no progress towards GMO mandatory labeling with FDA, USDA, Congress or Legislatures, a California campaign is launching in October to get over 500,000 signatures to place mandatory labeling on the ballot for California voters.

Proponents intend that passage of the initiative would require food sold in California to be labeled if it contains any "genetically modified organism".

Information on the signature campaign that starts in October can be found at www.labelgmos.com.

Although passage would no doubt be followed by Court challenges, proponents have come to the conclusion that a ballot initiative in a state with 10% of the U.S. population may get them where they want to be better than creating a new Federal law or regulation.
