Source: Open Prairie Ventures (OPV) news release

Dr. Jim Budzynski has joined Open Prairie Ventures as a Venture Partner.

Dr. Budzynski's focus will be to assist with capital raising and identification of initial investment opportunities for the OPV III Fund to be launched in January 2013. In addition, Dr. Budzynski will also manage some existing investments in the Open Prairie Ventures II Fund.

Dr. Budzynski is the Managing Principal of MacroGain Partners, a Carmel, Indiana firm focused on structuring venture and private equity investments in companies in the agricultural, food, and energy industries and providing related strategic planning and management consulting services.

"A core tenet of my view of CAFÉ sector (commodities, agriculture, food, and energy) investing is that to be successful you need to be able to seek opportunities across both a wide range of business sectors and company maturities. Earlier stage investing requires specialized experience and expertise as well as allowing investors to mitigate risk by investing across a range of earlier stage opportunities. I am excited about partnering with the experienced VC team at Open Prairie Ventures to pursue exciting earlier stage investment opportunities in the CAFÉ sectors," said Jim Budzynski.

Dr. Budzynski has over 30 years of direct agrifood and related markets experience, primarily in the areas of structuring private equity transactions, strategic planning, distribution strategy development, brand management, marketing, and operations.

Dr. Budzynski was also a founder of BrightPath Capital, a private equity firm focused on the agrifood space, and BrightPath Strategies, a strategic consulting firm focused exclusively on agrifood and related industries.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Budzynski spent 12 years with Monsanto Company in a variety of product management, marketing, and strategic planning roles. Dr. Budzynski received his B.S. degree in Agronomy from Purdue University in 1977 and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Soil Chemistry in 1980 and 1982, respectively, from the University of Arizona.

"Open Prairie Ventures has been aggressively building our organizational ability to identify and close a range of compelling investments across the agricultural sector. The addition of Dr. Budzynski to our team provides additional sector expertise as well as broad industry connections. He is a well known strategic thinker in agri-foods who significantly enhance our ability to achieve our goals in the OPV III fund", said Jim Schultz, Managing Principal, Open Prairie Ventures.
