More than a dozen organizations will participate in the AEM Safety Zone at AG CONNECT Expo & Summit 2013, the international agricultural event of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) scheduled for January 29-31, 2013, at the Kansas City Convention Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

The AEM Safety Zone offers fun, educational activities and demonstrations covering the latest developments in farm and ranch safety and health. Exhibitors include farm safety education groups, not-for-profit organizations, universities and state and federal agencies.

Activities within the AEM Safety Zone are coordinated by the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day® program, an initiative of the Progressive Agriculture Foundation (PAF).

Family-Friendly Prizes Offered

Attendees will be encouraged to visit each of the AEM Safety Zone exhibits and have a card marked after they take part in the activity or view the demonstration. Completed cards will be entered into a drawing for family-friendly prizes at the end of each show day.

Prizes and prize sponsors include:

• Kansas City Convention & Visitors Association - Tickets to Science City, the Planetarium, Legoland, Sealife Aquarium and the College Basketball Experience; Kansas City BBQ lovers kits; Kansas City tote bags with a local cookbook; and Kansas City insulated mugs.

• National Education Center for Agricultural Safety and Health - Farm first aid kits.
AEM - Logo dress shirts.

A safety tips pamphlet sponsored by AEM and PAF will also be distributed.

Activities Teach Important Lessons

AEM Safety Zone participants and planned activities include:

• AEM-Safety - Identify common operator hazards using images from AEM's Safety Pictorial Database.

• Agricultural Safety & Health Council of America - Test your knowledge to see what role you could play in feeding nine billion people safely, humanely and sustainably.

• AgriSafe Network - Learn to select the appropriate mask for different farm tasks.

• American Farm Bureau Federation - Check your skin using a skin analyzer to see possible sun damage.

• Central States Center for Agricultural Safety and Health - Take the quiz to see what every day sounds can hurt your ears and what to do about it.

• International Society for Agricultural Safety and Health - Can you tell the difference between a blue children's beverage and blue window cleaning fluid when they are in identical containers? Prove it.

• Kentucky Department of Agriculture - See what happens when a full-size tractor rolls over with and without a roll bar and seatbelt protection.

• National AgrAbility Project - Try out 10 different types of simple assistive technologies used by farmers with disabilities.

• National Children's Center for Rural and AG Health and Safety - Take a virtual walkthrough and identify health and safety hazards on a typical agritourism operation.

• National Education Center for Agricultural Safety - Try our special goggles that simulate what it's like when you drive impaired.

• National Farm Medicine Center - Learn the do's and don'ts of presenting agricultural practices safely in photos and text.

• Progressive Agriculture Safety Days® - Step up to the Tug-of-War with Grain and test your strength to see if you can pull a 156-pound person from grain when he is buried shoulder deep.

• Purdue University Agricultural Safety and Health Program - Learn how to assemble a grain rescue tube.

• Pennsylvania State University - Experience first-hand how quickly you can get safety and health information from the experts.
