BrownfieldAgNews reports:

It's going to be a big year for enrollment at Purdue University's College of Agriculture.

Jay Akridge, the Glenn W. Sample Dean of Ag says they have over 2,700 students enrolled in the college for this school year. "That's our largest number since 1982," he says.

"Another strong enrollment and a strong interest in agriculture, in part because the job market remains exceptional. We'll have more than 120 companies on campus in October at our career fair."

Akridge tells Brownfield there is increasing interest in a lot of different areas within the College of Agriculture. "But agricultural economics and business remain very, very strong," he says.

"Agricultural and biological engineer is growing very rapidly (we have one of the top ranked programs of the country and that may be one reason for that), food science remains very strong and growing as does the animal sciences, as well."

He says currently there is more of a demand than students available in the plant science program. But with the help of the recent Purdue Moves award - he says they hope to change that.
