BrownfieldAgNews reports:

As the end of the year nears, what would you say is the biggest story in agriculture for 2013?

Jay County Indiana farmer Dave Lowe shares his thoughts on some of the big national issues that agriculture has faced this year. "We still don't have a farm bill and obviously that's a big thing," he says. "And then the RFS (Renewable Fuels Standard). EPA has suggested that we cut that back."

And locally, Lowe tells Brownfield they have to continue to highlight the importance of the agriculture industry.

"It's showing the value and representing the value of agriculture," he says. "It's being upfront and forthright and doing the kind of things that make sense to show people that we are good stewards of the land."

But, for that to happen, he says farmers have to be vocal and tell the story of agriculture.

Earlier this year the Jay County Farm Bureau organized what Lowe calls the "Tour De Farm". The goal of the program was to educate local officials about the value the agriculture industry brings to the county.
