Over 200 students from fourteen community colleges attended the inaugural AgriBusiness Career Day, presented by the Agribusiness Association of Iowa Foundation.

This new event, created to connect Ag majors enrolled at
an Iowa Community College with potential agribusiness employers, was held on Wednesday, February 12 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds as part of the Agribusiness Showcase & Conference.

"It's been an issue in agriculture for the past few years, getting enough new blood into our industry," said Jim Anderson from Remington Seeds, "I think this year's AgriBusiness Career Day was a good start."

In addition to educational presentations and a tradeshow floor experience, fifteen $1,000 scholarships were awarded,
including one to a student from each of the represented Iowa Community Colleges plus a $1,000 scholarship to Iowa State University.

The day began with presentations from several Ag industry leaders that include Michelle Gowdy, Director of Community & Academic Relations with DuPont Pioneer, Judy Meyer, President of agriCAREERS, Inc., Mike Maranell, Hedlin Ag Enterprises & Former AAI Board Chairman, Katie McWhirter, Precision Ag Specialist of Eldon C. Stutsman, Inc. and Dean Wendy Wintersteen, Iowa State University College of Ag and Life Sciences.

After the morning presentations, the students listened to the All Industry Luncheon keynote speaker, Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds and explored the tradeshow, increasing their understanding of agribusiness opportunities.

This event was sponsored by DuPont Pioneer and Farm Credit Services of America. Additional scholarships were sponsored by CF Industries; Growmark; Heartland Co-op; Iowa State University; Nichols Ag; O'Toole, Inc.; and Sweetland Ag Tech. "There has likely never been a better run inaugural event!!" said Rob Denson, DMACC President.

The Agribusiness Showcase & Conference provides attendees the opportunity to explore the innovative tools they need to enhance their careers and grow their business.

Save the date for next year's event on February 10 & 11, 2015.

The Agribusiness Association of Iowa Foundation's charitable goals reflect the interests of the agribusiness industry and benefit AAI members by promoting research projects, member education, stewardship and higher education scholarships.
