Kristi Krafka, vice president of regulatory affairs for the animal nutrition and health division of Kemin in North America, has been appointed to the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) Board of Directors. Krafka's appointment expires May 2015 and she is one of only six female feed industry leaders on the 37-member board. Most recently, Krafka was chair of AFIA's Feed Regulatory Committee.

AFIA is the world's largest organization devoted exclusively to representing the business, legislative and regulatory business of the U.S. animal feed industry and its suppliers. Members include more than 575 domestic and international companies and as well as state, regional and national associations.

Krafka was instrumental in Kemin achieving the prestigious Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) recognition at its Des Moines, Iowa, manufacturing facility in February 2013. Kemin earned the Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) 22000:2010, recognized by GFSI, which is accepted by food manufacturers worldwide. Under Krafka's leadership, Kemin continuously enhances its conditions and processes that ensure its products are safe, efficient and effective until they reach the end consumer.

"Kristi is a well-respected leader in the animal feed community," said AFIA President and CEO Joel G. Newman. "Her expertise, experience and advocacy for food safety is a valuable asset to AFIA and its members."

Krafka joined Kemin in 1996 as manager of intellectual property and regulatory affairs. Prior to joining Kemin, she served as a technical writer and director of U.S. and Canada biological regulatory affairs for Fort Dodge Animal Health.

Krafka holds a Bachelor of Science in agriculture from Iowa State University. She currently lives in rural Cambridge, Iowa, with her husband and two daughters; her family is active in 4-H and raising and showing sheep.
