World Food Prize reports:

The World Food Prize has named Catherine Swoboda its new Director of Planning. Since September 2011, Catherine has served as The World Food Prize Director of Iowa and Midwest Education Programs, inspiring high school students to pursue educational and career paths in STEM fields and fostering global awareness.

"Catherine is an extraordinary individual both in terms of her organizational skills and her deep commitment to expanding Dr. Borlaug's legacy," said Amb. Kenneth M. Quinn, President of The World Food Prize. "I am personally delighted that Catherine will be continuing as a member of our staff serving in this new expanded capacity."

Catherine holds a bachelor's degree in agronomy and a master's degree in science in crop production and physiology. She previously worked in the Science Policy Office of the Agronomy, Crop and Soil Science Societies of America, and as a young student, she participated in all of the World Food Prize youth programs.

Appointed by Iowa Governor Terry Branstad in 2011, she currently serves on the Governor's STEM Advisory Council. Catherine will oversee The World Food Prize's annual Borlaug Dialogue international symposium and related events.

Catherine replaces Bian Li, who left the organization in late March to attend graduate school at MIT and to co-found an investment fund for young agricultural entrepreneurs. Both Catherine and Bian spoke on March 25 as part of the USDA Borlaug Symposium focused on the next generation of leaders in agriculture.
