The best prices yet for milk.

The base price for Class III milk in April is a record $24.31 per hundredweight, up 98 cents from March and $6.72 above April of last year.

Class II base is $24.74 up 52 cents for the month and $6.01 for the year. The Class IV base slipped 32 cents for the month to $23.34 per hundredweight, still $5.24 above April of 2013.

Component prices per pound: butterfat $2.1277; protein $4.0789; nonfat solids $1.8328: other solids $0.4926.

The Preliminary Index of Prices Received by Farmers in April puts the all-milk price at $25.50 per hundredweight, up 30 cents from March.

The April milk-to-feed ratio is 2.44, down from the 2.56 of March but well-above the 1.54 of a year ago.
