The Used Cooking Oil (UCO) industry will learn how to expand its exports into the billion dollar biofuels market in Europe at a workshop to be held in Chicago on July 8th.

The workshop is being offered by ISCC, ISCC">, the global leader in certifying UCO and other feedstocks for the European biofuels market.

"In order for feedstocks to be used in the European Union (EU) they must first be independently certified as sustainable by a system like ISCC," said Dr. Norbert Schmitz, Managing Director of ISCC.

"There are certain requirements that must be met by United States (US) and Canadian companies supplying UCO to this large market. The purpose of the workshop is to advise waste oil collectors and traders exactly how to do get certified for export into the EU market and to explain to auditors how to verify," said Dr. Schmitz.

The EU market for UCO has dramatically increased over the past year and North America has become a major supplier in this market. "A key reason for interest in the EU market has been pricing," said Dr. Schmitz. "The UCO market in the EU has commanded premium prices and as a result generated large interest from North American exporters."

ISCC, the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification system is a non-profit organization headquartered in Cologne, Germany. It is fully approved by the EU to offer certification services for the EU biofuels market.

ISCC is active in more than 90 countries including Europe, the Americas, China, South-Asia and Australia. More than 5,400 certificates have been issued so far.

The workshop will be led by senior executives of ISCC from Germany and experienced US industry representatives that have been certified and exporting UCO to the EU market for the past year. They will authoritatively address all issues to help smooth the way for companies to export UCO to the European biofuels market.

Date: July 8, 2014

Location: Embassy Suites Chicago - O'Hare/Rosemont, 5500 North River Road, Rosemont, Illinois 60018
