Hillshire Brands has reached an agreement to acquire Pinnacle Foods in a cash and stock deal valued at $6.6 billion.

Hillshire says the deal enhances the company's scale, reach and future expansion opportunities.

Completion is targeted for September, the combined company will be based in Chicago under the Hillshire name.

Hillshire has ten meat plants around the country including New London, WI; Storm Lake, IA; St Joseph, MO and Kansas City, KS.

Besides their flagship line, Hillshire has brand names like Jimmy Dean, Ball Park and Sara Lee. The company reported sales of nearly $4 billion in 2013.

Based in New Jersey, Pinnacle has ten manufacturing facilities including Darien, WI: Ft Madison, IA: Waseca, MN: St. Elmo and Mattoon, IL.

Pinnacle brands include Armour, Birds-Eye, Duncan Hines, Vlasic and Mrs. Butterworth's. The company reported sales of nearly $2.5 billion in 2013.
