National Association of Farm Broadcasting (NAFB) reports:

Oklahoma farmers and ranchers now have one more highly-respected NAFB member delivering their news and information, as 2012 Horizon Award honoree Leslie Smith joined the Radio Oklahoma Network May 15.

Smith, formerly of KNEB-AM in Scottsbluff, Neb., and the Rural Radio Network, joined NAFB past president Ron Hays, who has helmed Radio Oklahoma Network's agricultural programming since 2006.

"I'm really excited," Smith told eChats as she drove from Nebraska to Oklahoma City last week. "It's a incredible chance to work with one of the greats in farm broadcasting, and to open my mind and learn about new crops and a new region of the country."

Smith stressed that while she was intrigued to learn more about cotton and canola rather than sugar beets and dry beans, the connection with farmers and farm broadcasters is the same regardless of geography.

A native of Kiowa, Colo., Smith joined KNEB-AM in 2008 after graduating from Colorado State University - Fort Collins. She earned many accolades for her work in Nebraska, including several awards from the Nebraska Broadcasters Association for service to agriculture, and the 2012 NAFB Horizon Award recognizing early career excellence and promise for the future.

She said that the month of May has been a whirlwind, with a week in Washington, D.C., for NAFB's Washington Watch capped off by her last official day at KNEB, and then loading up a truck and trailer to move to her new posting in Oklahoma.

Radio Oklahoma Network serves more than 45 affiliates in Oklahoma, and Hays produces television programming for affiliates in Tulsa and Oklahoma City six days each week. His eNewsletter is among the most widely-read digital newsletters produced by an NAFB member.
