Lisa Zannoni, global head of Regulatory and Stewardship, Seeds, and co-lead of the Global Regulatory Leadership Team at Syngenta, has joined the National Advisory Board of Women in Agribusiness (WIA).

According to Joy O'Shaughnessy, Women in Agribusiness Summit event director, the Women in Agribusiness National Advisory Board is critical in shaping WIA initiatives, including foreign and domestic events, the WIA mentorship program, and the WIA report on the demographics of women in agribusiness.

"The knowledge and expertise that board members share ensure that the programs WIA undertakes are effective in meeting our goals to help companies recruit, promote and retain women," O'Shaughnessy said. "We are excited to have Lisa join us because she brings a unique energy and enthusiasm, an extensive background in ag biotechnology, and experience working with programs to enhance ag and biotech education in schools."

Zannoni adds that the goals of Women in Agribusiness are consistent with the aims of the Syngenta Good Growth Plan, introduced last fall. "According to the most recent Census of Agriculture, 14 percent of principal farm operators in the U.S. are women - up from only five percent in the 1980s," Zannoni said.

"Through our Good Growth Plan, Syngenta intends to make a deep, lasting and positive impact on the farmers and rural communities who provide the world's food security and the long-term sustainability of our planet. Initiatives like the Women in Agribusiness Summit help to foster the leadership needed to feed the world in a more sustainable way."

Zannoni, an attorney and pharmacist, is a member of the Syngenta Seeds Research & Development Leadership Team and the Board of Directors at Syngenta Biotechnology, Inc. She provides leadership with several major industry initiatives, currently serving as chair of the Global Alliance for Ag Biotech Trade, the Global Industry Coalition and the OECD Business and Industry Advisory Committee on Biotechnology.

She previously held an appointment to the USDA Federal Advisory Committee on Biotechnology & 21st Century Agriculture.
