The American Royal Association has announced that Neal Patterson, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of KC-based Cerner Corp., will be the featured speaker at this year's Business & Scholarship Luncheon to be held September 10 in Kemper Arena.

Cerner, a company Patterson co-founded with two colleagues in 1979, is the largest public healthcare information technology company, with over $2.9 billion in revenue in 2013 and more than 15,000 associates worldwide. Patterson is also a Lifetime Director of the American Royal.

"This is an exciting announcement for the American Royal. We are very pleased to have such a visionary person from the healthcare technology world be our featured speaker. Cerner has been a great boost to our local economy and is a great success story to learn from," said Mariner Kemper, 2014 American Royal Chairman.

This year also marks the return of several partners to the American Royal Business & Scholarship Luncheon. "Cerner has been a longtime supporter of the American Royal, and Neal's influence in the local business community has helped reactivate the partnership with the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, The Agricultural Business Council of Kansas City and the Downtown Council of Kansas City in supporting this event.

We are very excited to have all these groups supporting Kansas City's most authentic asset, the American Royal," said Terry Dunn, Honorary Chair of the Business & Scholarship Luncheon Committee.

The American Royal Business & Scholarship Luncheon began in 2003 and has become a must-attend event for members of the local business community. The purpose of the event is to highlight the American Royal Scholars and the Vet Scholars, and also serves as the official kick-off event for the 2014 American Royal season.

"Neal Patterson has been active here for many years and changed a lot of lives, from our Royal Scholars to the exhibitors who participate in our Junior Premium Livestock Auction. We appreciate his generous support for our mission both in the past and future," said Steve Hunt, Chair of the Business & Scholarship Luncheon Committee.
