FEC Solutions hosted 20 Washington, D.C., policymakers and regulators at their research and development laboratory and processing facility in Des Moines this morning for a firsthand look at the renewable fuels industry. The tour was the final stop on the fifth annual Biofuels: Science & Sustainability Tour which began Aug. 11.

Bob Riley, co-founder, welcomed tour participants to the FEC Solutions headquarters and provided insight on the importance of the biofuels industry to Iowa and to agriculture. Tour participants also gained industry insight from General Manager Joe Riley.

"The biofuels industry reaches further than simply the biodiesel and ethanol plants," said Joe Riley of FEC Solutions. "Companies like ours are part of a wide network of diversification from the co-products generated from biofuels production. Those of us in the biofuels industry have invested in a wide range of products and processes for robust longevity."

Tour participants represented the following offices: Rep. David Scott (GA), Rep. Mike McIntyre (NC), Sen. Mark Udall (CO), Sen. John Thune (SD), Rep. Steve King (IA), Rep. Tom Latham (IA), Rep. Dave Loebsack (IA), Sen. Ron Wyden (OR), Sen. Chuck Grassley (IA), Rep. Bruce Braley (IA), Rep. Collin Peterson (MN), Rep. Ann McLane Kuster (NH), House Ag Committee, EPA Office of Transportation and Air Quality, Office of Governor Branstad, Governors Biofuel Coalition and the Midwestern Governors Association.

FEC Solutions started in 2006 and has since been at the forefront of new market development and marketing of corn oil to capture value for dry mill ethanol plants throughout the upper Midwest. Today, FEC Solutions has grown to provide process improvement, equipment sourcing and construction, technology development, scale up, new product development and marketing of materials for bioprocessing facilities including ethanol and biodiesel plants.
