Aug. 3, 2011 Agricultural Retailers Association (ARA) reports: This week, ARA and other members of the Waters Advocacy Coalition (WAC) asked the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to withdraw its draft Clean Water Act (CWA) guidance which aims to clarify the jurisdiction of the CWA by further defining "waters of the United States". The guidance would potentially expand the CWA jurisdiction. ARA is concerned of the Guidance's potential impact on agricultural retailers in light of EPA's recent development of NPDES permits for aquatic pesticide use, efforts to develop pesticide drift guidance, implementation of numeric nutrient criteria in various states and implementation on nutrient TMDL's in the Chesapeake Bay. This guidance could have a substantial impact on how the other rules affect production agriculture. ARA filed these comments, asking EPA to rescind the guidance. The WAC is comprised of industry groups and agricultural organizations that are committed to the protection and restoration of America's wetlands and waters. Tweet |
