May 27, 2016 Des Moines Register reports: Meet Harry Stine, founder of seed genetics company Stine Seed, and once again crowned by Forbes as Iowa's richest man. Stine's net worth is $3.4 billion, according to Forbes. The business news site and magazine released the second edition of its "Richest Person in Every State" list on Wednesday. How does the wealth of Iowa's sole billionaire compare to the richest people from every other state? A new map from Forbes offers a glimpse. Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett took the "richest person" spot in Nebraska with an estimated net worth of $67.9 billion. And, perhaps unsurprisingly, Microsoft founder Bill Gates was Washington state's richest person ($76 billion), while Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg was California's ($51.6 billion). Stine made his fortune breeding soybeans and corn and then licensing the genetics to companies such as Monsanto and Syngenta. He lives across the street from his company's headquarters in Adel. Forbes periodically reports lists of the richest people in the U.S. and around the world. Stine, 74, has repeatedly come out as the richest Iowan in the state and the only one with a net worth over a billion dollars. During the 2016 Iowa caucus cycle, Stine joined a group of about 30 other Iowa business leaders to endorse Republican Jeb Bush. Tweet |
