Jul. 27, 2017 Source: Charleston | Orwig news release Charleston|Orwig (C|O) kicked off the celebration of its 25th Anniversary last Friday with an employee day at the Waukesha County Fair and the first of "25 Feel Good Deeds" that will be completed in the next 12 months to honor the occasion. "Celebrating our 25th is really quite a milestone, considering that 96% of companies don't make it to their 10th," noted Lyle E. Orwig, chairman and founding partner of the agency. The average lifespan of companies on the S&P 500 Index has decreased by more than 50 years in the last century, according to a Yale study by Richard Foster. While successful companies lasted an average of 67 years in the 1920s, they typically exist for only 15 years today. "We're very happy to have successfully navigated that 15-year mark and celebrate our 25th," added Orwig. "We also challenged our employees to come up with a memorable way to note that achievement and the "25 Feel Good Deeds" was the result." The first of those deeds was completed at the fair when C|O purchased a hog and steer from 4-H members Lauren Black and Tom Craig during the livestock auction at the Waukesha County Fair-the oldest fair in the state. The Junior Livestock Auction is the culmination of a year's project for these 4-H members. Tom and Lauren selected, fed and groomed their animals to bring to the fair to be judged, graded and sold. Support of the auction translates into recognition and incentive for these young adults to buy more animals and earn college funds-all while receiving practical training in business. "Agriculture has always been the foundation of the agency," noted Marcy Tessmann, president. "Having a family day and a pig roast at the fair so that employees could enjoy an afternoon off in the summer was a great way to celebrate the occasion. Adding the first of our "25 Feel Good Deeds" by supporting ag youth at the livestock auction just topped off the day."
