PRESIDENT TRUMP REACHES OUT TO IOWA SENATORS, ASSURES THEM OF HIS BIOFUEL SUPPORT Dec. 11, 2017
Agri-Pulse reports:
After telling pro-oil senators of a desire to find a mutually beneficial resolution to concerns over the Renewable Fuel Standard, the Trump White House also reached out to Iowa's pro-RFS senators to reaffirm the president's support for biofuels. According to spokespeople for Sens. Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst, the White House reached out to say Trump remains supportive of the RFS. White House Chief of Staff Gen. John Kelly spoke to Grassley and "reiterated the president's unwavering commitment to ethanol, the RFS and Midwestern farmers," according to Grassley's office. Ernst's office tells Agri-Pulse they also heard a pro-RFS message from the administration, and Ernst tweeted her thanks to Trump for bringing up a pro-RFS message during the meeting. Last week, Trump met with a number of oil state senators at the request of Texas Republican Ted Cruz. A spokesperson for the White House said Trump "confirmed his commitment to RFS and his support for our farmers and energy workers." Trump expressed a desire to work "with all the stakeholders toward a mutually agreeable path forward."
