Dec. 11, 2017
Agri-Pulse reports:
U.S. farm-state lawmakers have been turning up the heat on the White House over the importance of the North American Free Trade Agreement and President Trump is getting the message. Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman and ardent NAFTA proponent Pat Roberts said Friday that Trump stressed to him that the massive trade pact between the U.S., Mexico and Canada will survive the ongoing renegotiation process.
"Before I could even say Merry Christmas, Mr. President, he looked at me and put his thumb up and said, "We're going to be all right on NAFTA," Roberts said in an interview for C-Span's weekly Newsmakers show, which aired Sunday.
Roberts was interviewed by Agri-Pulse's Phil Brasher and Siobhan Hughes of The Wall Street Journal for the C-Span show. Roberts also predicted he will be able to can get a new farm bill enacted by the end of next year.
