Farmers and Families First, Inc., today announced the formation of its advisory board made up of farmers, business-owners, public officials and concerned citizens to advocate on behalf of free market-based policies impacting the agricultural community. The formation of the advisory board comes amid rising fears of the proposed mega-merger between Bayer AG and Monsanto Company - a potential deal that would devastate the farming community and raise grocery prices for families.
"This impressive group of agricultural leaders represent a critical and authoritative voice on market-based policies that help America's farmers and families," said Dan Conston, President of Farmers and Families First, Inc. "With the consequential issues facing farmers and consumers, particularly the Bayer-Monsanto merger, this advisory board will play a key role in guiding public policies impacting cash-strapped Americans and keeping a level playing field."
A recent study released by Farmers and Families First outlines how the proposed merger between Bayer AG and Monsanto Company would create a $66 billion corporation with unprecedented control over the products farmers and agriculture businesses need to grow, and produce and distribute the high quality foods American families need. It's projected that the merger could raise seed prices for farmers more than 20 percent and raise food prices by 18 percent. The merger is currently under review by the U.S. Department of Justice.
