Source: American Farmland Trust news release

Today, American Farmland Trust, the organization behind the national movement No Farms No Food, announces the promotion of Nick Herman to vice president of development.

Nick, who for the past 18 months has served as director of development operations responsible for both membership and individual giving, will now lead the entirety of AFT's fundraising efforts necessary to sustain and grow its programming and advance its mission. The vice president of development reports directly to AFT's president and CEO and is part of AFT's Executive and Senior Management team.

AFT is currently in a growth phase and expects to continue to grow significantly for the foreseeable future, looking to raise 15 million dollars this upcoming year serve its mission of protecting the nation's farmland and ranchland, promoting sound farming practices and keeping farmers on the land.

In his role as director of development operations, Nick led the membership and individual giving teams, where he recruited a new team of major gift officers, rebuilt and developed systems and processes that help track the individual giving team's progress, balanced membership revenue and expenses and developed new strategies to grow membership outreach online.

"Nick has worked in development his entire career, engaged in fundraising at every level-from running call centers to soliciting half-million-dollar gifts. In his last job as director of annual giving at George Mason University, he was not only directly responsible for a staff that raised over $20 million annually, but he helped create and implement a successful $500 million comprehensive campaign," says John Piotti, AFT president and CEO.

He continues, "These experiences, plus his leadership here at AFT resulted in the search committee voting decisively for Nick's candidacy. We have been fortunate to benefit from Nick's fundraising talents thus far and look forward to him helping lead AFT through this growth period and beyond as vice president of development."

Nick will continue to work out of AFT's National Office in Washington, D.C. Nick moved to D.C. from North Carolina, where he received his Bachelor of Arts, from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in political science and organizational sociology. He is a member of AFP-DC; the Direct Marketing Association of Washington and is pursuing his CFRE.

"This is a great opportunity to work in advancing the mission of American Farmland Trust - the work (and potential impact) of this organization is simply too important to not strive to take our efforts to the next level," said Nick.
He continued, "I'm honored to be tasked with this challenge, and I'm proud to help lead the team in support of AFT's great work. "
