PROMINENT INDIANA FARMER KIP TOM CONFIRMED TO UN FAO POST, FINALLY Apr. 12, 2019
Agri-Pulse reports:
After an extensive delay, Indiana farmer Kip Tom is finally headed to Rome after being confirmed by the Senate to be the U.S. ambassador to the UN food and agriculture programs based there. Tom's nomination was approved on a voice vote as the Senate shut down Thursday for its Easter recess.
At his confirmation hearing last August, Tom said he intended to bring a private sector perspective to U.S. oversight of the World Food Program and the Food and Agriculture Organization.
Earlier Thursday afternoon, the Senate voted 56-41 to confirm David Bernhardt as Interior secretary. Bernhardt had been serving as acting secretary since December, when Ryan Zinke resigned.
