IOWA SENATOR GRASSLEY: FARMERS PATIENT WITH CHINA, NOT SO WITH BIOFUEL DELAYS Sep. 26, 2019
POLITICO reports:
Sen. Chuck Grassley says it's time for the Trump administration to either offer up a package of biofuel policy changes "or get off the pot," reports Pro Energy's Eric Wolff. The Iowa Republican said Trump's biofuel policies are "hurting the president more in Iowa than even the China debate," referring to the trade war.
"I think farmers have patience with China - the negotiations going on with China," he told reporters on Tuesday. "What they don't understand is, they're promised 15 billion gallons of ethanol to be used, but get 13.6 [billion gallons]."
Grassley outlined a potential agreement in the works that would allow the EPA to continue offering exemptions to small refineries from biofuel blending requirements under the Renewable Fuel Standard, while reallocating demand under the mandate to ensure that other refiners blend 15 billion gallons of conventional ethanol.
