NEW YORK CITY BANS SERVING PROCESSED MEAT IN ITS SCHOOLS, INCLUDING BACON
GrubStreet.com reports:

Just one day after the New York Times declared (via a report in the latest issue of Annals of Internal Medicine) that maybe beef and pork aren't so bad for us, the New York City Council has gone in the exact opposite direction.

This morning, the Council went forward with a citywide ban on processed meats in New York City schools introduced last March by Bronx council-member Fernando Cabrera. Meaning that under Resolution 238, no more bologna, salami, pepperoni or bacon.

This comes a few months after Mayor Bill De Blasio instituted Meatless Mondays across all city schools, a measure that went into effect at the beginning of the 2019-20 school year. There's no word yet on when the new ban will begin.
