Nov. 1, 2021 Source: National Sorghum Producers As Senate Agriculture Committee Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) indicated Wednesday, the agriculture provisions included in the text of the Democrats' reconciliation package have all taken a "haircut" from the levels approved earlier by House committees due to the downsizing of the larger package from $3.5 trillion down to $1.85 trillion. However, the package includes: *a $25-per-acre payment for cover crops from 2022 to 2026; *increases funding for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program ($9 billion over 6 years), *the Conservation Stewardship Program ($4.1 billion over 6 years), *the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program ($1.7 billion over 6 years), *the Regional Conservation Partnership Program ($7.5 billion over 6 years), and *NRCS technical assistance and climate change mitigation activities ($850 million) for the purpose of reducing or sequestering greenhouse gas, methane and nitrous oxide emissions. The measure also provides $960 million for biofuels infrastructure as well as funding for forestry, rural development, research, urban agriculture, and farmer debt forgiveness provisions. The $1-a-gallon tax credit for biodiesel and renewable diesel would be extended through 2026 and then replaced by a low-carbon fuel credit extended to sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) as well as advanced biofuels such as ethanol produced with carbon-capture technology.
