By Matthew Grassi, AgWeb.com Another week, another record shattering used farm equipment auction. This one took place last Friday in the Hawkeye State near Kingsely, Iowa, and it had Machinery Pete scouring the record books. Kurt Paulsen of Paulsen Auctions facilitated the festivities and Rob Plendl was the lucky proprietor. Of note was a 1990 John Deere 4955 (2WD, 3733 operating hours) in excellent condition that went for a staggering $100,750. That tractor bested the previous record by a whopping $23,000. And a 1990 4755 (2WD, 4011 operating hours) came in at $95,000, a $13,000 increase over historical auction data. It's a trend Machinery Pete says he is seeing play out in the used equipment market: Used 2WD tractors in good to excellent condition from thirty-plus years ago are moving like hot cakes. "I was watching this thing unfold (online) and it was just unbelievable," Peterson told AgriTalk's Chip Flory on Monday. "These two-wheel drive models from the 80s, 90s, and even early 2000s, and the Magnums on the red side - they have just continued to get hotter these last couple of years."
