Roy founded Reiman Publications in 1965 and throughout his career was known for publications like Taste of Home, Our Iowa and Our Wisconsin. Roy graduated from Iowa State in 1957 with a degree in agricultural journalism. Through the years, Roy's passion for Iowa State University was demonstrated through his time spent engaging with students, through his extraordinary storytelling, and in the generosity he and his wife Bobbi demonstrated time and again in helping the university create visionary landmarks like Reiman Gardens, the alumni center and the completion of the Jack Trice Stadium endzone. "Roy Reiman will be long remembered as a creative genius with innovative 'wild ideas' that created a publishing empire. His love for his wife, Bobbi and his family was always apparent, as was his devotion to the state of Iowa and this university. But Reiman, who died Monday at age 90, was probably best known for launching "Taste of Home" − a magazine that spawned a popular Greendale restaurant which helped anchor that community's downtown shopping district. Magazine publisher Roy Reiman, shown with wife Bobbi Reiman in 2014, has died. His Greendale-based Reiman Publications was best known for "Taste of Home" magazine. Reiman founded Reiman Publications in 1965 and moved it to Greendale in the 1970s, buying a former Allis-Chalmers Corp. facility at 5400 S. 60th St. Reiman Publications eventually grew to be the largest subscription-supported publishing firm in the United States − with its magazines carrying no ads. The company's flagship publication was "Taste of Home," a cooking magazine with readers submitting recipes accompanied by their personal stories about the foods they loved. The company's Greendale headquarters, which Reiman expanded, featured a test kitchen. Reiman's investments included buying and remodeling several older commercial buildings on Greendale's Broad Street. Those properties included the Reiman Publications Visitors Center, which attracted busloads of tourists who were fans of "Taste of Home" and other magazines, as well as a Taste of Home restaurant − now the home of Joey Gerard's. Reiman was "a monumental figure in our community whose vision and dedication transformed Greendale, and particularly our historic downtown into the vibrant heart it is today," according to a statement issued by the Village of Greendale. Reader's Digest Association Inc. bought Reiman Publications in 2002 − four years after Reiman sold a majority stake in his company to Madison Dearborn Partners, a Chicago-based investment firm.
