![]() Dec. 16, 2024 Source: National Crop Insurance Services Watch any sporting event nowadays, and you are almost guaranteed to see commercials selling auto and home insurance. And those commercials are amusingly unique - from talking lizards to professional athletes wearing khakis, crime-fighting ostriches, and a team of wise-cracking salesmen in nurse-like, all-white uniforms. The commercials are very different, but the underlying product they're selling is pretty much the same. Most people who drive have a similar kind of insurance as other drivers on the road - i.e., Hondas don't have different kinds of policies than Chevys. Same goes for your house. Home insurance is home insurance. The risk management products protecting America's farmers are a lot more specialized. From corn and cotton to niche products like clams and pistachios, U.S. agriculture encompasses an extraordinary variety of crops and livestock, each with unique risks and challenges. And that kind of diverse portfolio needs customizable insurance options. This diversity is the topic of a new video recently released by the National Crop Insurance Services as part of its Crop Insurance Shorts series. To watch the video click here. The video explains that, just as no two farms are alike, farmers' risk management needs are equally unique. Crop insurance has evolved to provide coverage options tailored to specific agricultural needs, allowing farmers to secure their livelihoods in the face of unpredictable weather, market fluctuations and other risks. Since the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, the crop insurance sector has introduced more than 30 new products. These additions include expanded coverage for livestock, pastureland and an array of specialty crops, reflecting ongoing efforts to address emerging agricultural needs and enhance risk protection. Farmers can even buy different levels of coverage and different policies for different parts of their farms - tailoring protection to specific risks field by field. With more than 130 products currently available under crop insurance, this video reinforces the success of Congress's commitment to building a responsive, farmer-centric risk management system. "Clearly, Congress created a risk management system that works and farmers love," the video concludes. "Lawmakers should build on that success story in the next Farm Bill." Sounds so easy a caveman could...well, you get the point. Tweet |
