CRONUS CHEMICALS TO BUILD $2 BILLION AMMONIUM FERTILIZER PLANT IN TUSCOLA, IL
by Abreanna Blose, Gannett

Pontiac, IL -- Cronus Chemicals is investing $2 billion to build a fertilizer plant in Tuscola.

The project is expected to create 130 jobs and reduce Illinois' reliance on imported nitrogen products, according to a community announcement.

The plant will produce 950,000 short tons of ammonia annually and use carbon capture and storage technology to reduce emissions.

Illinois is the nation's largest consumer of ammonia, and the new facility will provide locally produced fertilizers to Midwestern farmers.

The announcement coincides with the 2025 Farm Progress Show in Decatur, where agricultural and manufacturing leaders are highlighting innovation and investment in rural America.
