FIRST USDA CONDITIONS REPORT FINDS TWO-THIRDS OF CORN AND SOYBEANS IN GOOD TO EXCELLENT SHAPE Jun. 2, 2026 BrownfieldAgNews reports: The first national condition ratings of the season for corn and soybeans are a little bit below a year ago. Overall, conditions are seen as generally favorable, but some areas are being hit by drought, while other areas are excessively wet. The USDA says 67% of U.S. corn is good to excellent, 2% lower than last year, with 93% planted and 76% emerged, both ahead of the five-year averages. 66% of U.S. soybeans are good to excellent, 1% below a year ago, and 87% of the crop is planted with 65% emerged, faster than most recent years, 26% of winter wheat is in good to excellent shape, unchanged on the week, with 87% headed and harvest just getting underway at 5%. 47% of spring wheat is in good to excellent condition, down 1% on the year, while 94% is planted and 72% has emerged. 66% of cotton is planted and 7% is squaring, both close to average. 72% of rice is called good to excellent, dipping 1% from the week before, with 98% planted and 97% emerged. 45% of sorghum is planted, 1% slower than the usual rate. 30% of U.S. pastures and rangelands in rated good to excellent, up 1% on the week, but down 12% on the year.
