CANADA'S HARRY SIEMENS RECEIVES NORTH AMERICAN FARM REPORTING EXCELLENCE AWARD
Source: North American Farm Reporting

Harry Siemens
Altona, Manitoba -- Veteran Canadian farm broadcaster and agricultural journalist Harry Siemens has received the North American Farm Reporting Excellence Award in recognition of more than five decades of service to agriculture and agricultural communications throughout Canada and North America.

The award was initiated by U.S. farm broadcasters Lynn Ketelsen of the Linder Farm Network, the late Orion Samuelson, and Max Armstrong, longtime voices in agricultural broadcasting and fellow members of the National Association of Farm Broadcasting (NAFB). Together, they sought to recognize Siemens' lifetime of contributions to agricultural journalism and his efforts to strengthen relationships between Canadian and American farmers.

Harry's more than 50-year career of farm broadcasting in Western Canada closely paralleled the efforts of Ketelsen, Samuelson and Armstrong in the United States. Beginning at CJOV Radio in Winkler, Manitoba, Siemens became a familiar voice to Prairie farmers through his work on CFAM Radio in Altona and through the expanding network of agricultural radio stations serving rural Manitoba and Western Canada.

Long before digital communications became commonplace in agriculture, Siemens embraced the internet as a means of delivering timely farm information and analysis. Through his reports, interviews, podcasts, columns and online journalism, he built a loyal following among producers across Canada and beyond.

His commentary feature, "Siemens Says," patterned in part after Orion Samuelson's celebrated "Samuelson Says," has brought thoughtful insight, perspective and commentary to generations of Canadian producers.

Armstrong reflected on Siemens' impact and friendship over the years. "Orion and I, in our broadcasting partnership, had spoken often of Harry's numerous contributions and the valuable assistance that he provided to us," Armstrong said. "Harry has been a trusted voice for agriculture and an important bridge between Canadian and American farmers."

Ketelsen said the award recognizes a lifetime of quiet but significant contributions.

"We just felt we should present a formal award to Harry Siemens," Ketelsen said. "Without great fanfare, Harry has reached across the border on numerous occasions, fostering improved understanding and better relationships between our farmers."

Throughout his career, Siemens has covered crop production, livestock, trade, transportation, weather, farm policy and rural life, earning the respect of farmers, agricultural leaders and fellow broadcasters across North America.

The North American Farm Reporting Excellence Award recognizes both his achievements in agricultural journalism and his enduring commitment to strengthening ties between Canadian and American agriculture.
