NATIONAL OCEANIC AND ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION: EL NINO HAS ARRIVED

It's official. El Nino has arrived.
Meteorologist Xander Lowry, with Aura Commodities, says the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has declared that the waters in the central Pacific have warmed significantly enough to officially be classified as El Nino.
"NOAA being the second major agency in the world to declare it." He says, "The JMA, the Japanese Meteorology Agency, also declared it recently too. So, we got that El Nino declared. We are still warming and still expected to continue to warm. Observational data points are pointing to one of the strongest El Ninos ever."
He tells Brownfield, "Some of their more recent model outlooks have jumped the risk of a very strong El Nino from about 37% to 63%." He says, "There's still some lingering questions on how exactly strong does this El Nino get."
Lowry says the last strong El Nino occurred in 2015.
For the Midwest, typically throughout mid to late summer, that would lean the forecast in a bit of a cooler way." He says, "A lot of the better rainfall does stay a little bit more into the south, but it is a little bit more positive for crop development throughout the summer."
