CROPLIFE ISSUES STATEMENT ON SUPREME COURT RULING
Source: CropLife America news release

Arlington, VA -- The U.S. Supreme Court issued its decision today in the Monsanto v. Durnell case to address whether federal pesticide law (FIFRA) preempts a label-based failure-to-warn claim where the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has not required the warning.

CropLife America (CLA) filed a friend-of-the-court brief in this case, explaining the important role the pesticide label plays in pesticide regulation and the importance of uniform labels in supporting EPA's science-based approval of pesticides.

While CLA continues to review the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling, the organization has issued the following media statement:

"We are pleased that today's decision recognized the congressionally mandated role of the United States Environmental Protection Agency to approve consistent and science-based pesticide labels. This decision provides greater certainty for companies to continue investing in U.S. research, development, and manufacturing operations.

"This regulatory certainty helps bring innovative crop protection tools to American farmers, strengthens U.S. agricultural global competitiveness, and supports an abundant, healthy, and affordable food supply for families across the country."
